Failed Lead Tests: 12 Plainfield Schools Slated For Retesting As School Begins
Non-compliant sinks and fountains will remained turned off until they pass lead content tests.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A day before the 2017-18 school year begins, lead retesting results were released showing 54 water sources at 12 District 202 campuses still not in compliance with state lead content standards. After lead filters were installed, water sources at four additional campuses now meet state standards — leaving a total of 52 sinks and two drinking fountains still over the lead limit.
Initial test results released last week showed 65 water sources (six fountains and 59 sinks) at 16 campuses that were not compliant. District 202 officials said lead filters were installed on all 65, bringing all water sources at four more schools (Plainfield Academy, Timber Ridge Middle School, Plainfield High School - Central Campus and Ira Jones Middle School) up to code.
After another round of water testing, "Fifty-four water sources at 12 schools remain non-compliant," the district said in a news release. Those 54 sources are:

- Two water fountains (at Wesmere Elementary and Plainfield South High School by the tennis courts)
- 52 sinks (at Indian Trail, Eichelberger, Creekside, Walker's Grove, River View, Drauden Point, Aux Sable, Grand Prairie, Lakewood Falls, Plainfield East High School, Plainfield South High School).
"The remaining non-compliant water sources will remain turned off until they pass a re-test," District officials said. Re-test results should be available by Aug. 24.
