Students at Murphy Junior High School were seeking shelter from the storm after a false fire alarm sent them outside.
According to a report from Only Oswego, a false fire alarm at around 12:15 p.m. forced hundreds of students outside into the rain.

An email from the school said that the building was evacuated after it made sure the alarm was not pulled on accident. Students and faculty had to brave the elements for a few minutes before being sent into the gym, which was designated as a safe zone where students could wait until the all-clear was given.
”(We) moved all students in there so that we could finish accounting for students and if need be, quickly evacuate the building again,” said the school’s message to parents, as reported by Only Oswego.

Once the situation was under control, students were able to dry off in their homerooms or change into their gym clothes.
“We are happy to report everyone is soggy but safe,” the email said.
Oswego Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Josh Walters told Only Oswego the false alarm was probably triggered by the storm.
