False Rumor Prompts Soft Lockdown at Plainfield Central

The lockdown lasted for an hour while the school investigated. The rumor proved to be unfounded.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A rumor regarding staff and student safety that turned out to be false prompted a soft lockdown at Plainfield Central Tuesday morning.

The lockdown began at 7:45 a.m. while the school investigated, according to District 202 Director of Community Relations Tom Hernandez.

Hernandez said a parent called the school to report that her student had seen another student with a possible firearm.

The rumor proved to be unfounded and the lockdown was lifted at 8:45 a.m.

“There was no threat to safety and students have resumed their normal routines,” Hernandez said. ”We notified parents both of the soft lockdown and of it being cancelled, with apologies for any inconvenience. However student and staff safety is always our first priority.”
