Firefighter, Cat Injured in Plainfield House Fire

Damage to the home is estimated to be at $430,000.

A fire at a Plainfield home early Sunday morning has left a firefighter and a cat injured, according to a release from the Plainfield Fire Protection District.

At 3:07 a.m. Sunday, July 19, the PFPD responded to a call for two cars and a boat on fire inside an attached garage at 13021 S. Northland Drive. When firefighters arrived at the house, they found a 3-car garage fully engulfed in flames. The response was upgraded to a full still alarm at 3:13 a.m.

Everyone inside the home was able to get out and a cat was taken to an animal hospital for smoke inhalation. A firefighter was slightly injured while battling the blaze and was taken to a hospital for treatment and later released.

While the garage door withstood most of the fire, the fire did make its way into the laundry room and kitchen of the house, according to Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton.

Damage to the home is estimated at $430,000 with around $200,000 worth of contents damaged or destroyed. The damage to the home had rendered it uninhabitable. The fire also caused heat damage to a neighboring home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Plainfield Fire Protection District and the MABAS 15 Fire Investigators.

Assistance in fighting the fire was provided by Naperville and Oswego Fire Departments. Station coverage for Plainfield during the fire was provided by Bolingbrook, Minooka, Romeoville and Troy Fire Departments.
