Flood Causes $40,000 in Damage at Plainfield Wastewater Plant
The village signed off on emergency repairs at its June 17 meeting.

Flooding in April caused more than $40,000 in damage to the Village of Plainfield's sanitary sewer treatment system, officials said Monday.
The village board signed off on emergency repairs for two pumps at the wastewater treatment plant, plus repairs to a dissolved oxygen monitoring station and $18,000 in electrical repairs — all of which should qualify for reimbursement by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Public Works Director Allen Persons said.
The costs include $20,019 to repair two wastewater treatment plant pumps, one of which suffered "catastrophic failure" of one process due to flood damage, while the other was damaged due to the high volume of water and sludge that needed to be pumped during the flood.
Persons said the village intends to apply for FEMA reimbursement for the repairs, saying FEMA should cover 75 percent of the cost.
