Former Plainfield Principal Passes Away

Dr. James Waldorf was the principal at Plainfield Central for 1978 to 1993.

A former Plainfield High School principal has passed away, according to a release from the school district.

Dr. James Waldorf was the principal at Plainfield High School – Central Campus from 1978-1993. His tenure included the 1990 tornado and its aftermath.

After his time with the school, Dr. Waldorf served another 12 years as principal at St. Mary Immaculate Parish School. There, he led the school through a significant budget crisis and helped keep its doors open by operating more efficiently.

Dr. Waldorf also served a two-year term as a Plainfield Village Trustee before being elected to one term as Village President (2005-2009)

He was very active in the community, volunteering with the Rotary, Salvation Army, Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Exchange Club, the C.W. Avery YMCA and the Plainfield Alliance to Nurture Diversity Awareness (PANDA).

Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 25 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Overman-Jones Funeral Home at 15219 South Joliet Road in Plainfield. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Parish at 15629 South Route 59. Interment will be at Plainfield Township Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass.
