Geneva Alert Siren To Be Replaced: Officials

Traffic on Kaneville Road would be limited to one lane during the community alert siren replacement project, officials said.

GENEVA, IL — If you hear the community alert siren go off Friday, don't be alarmed, city officials said. A contractor will be working to replace the siren, and the city may test it at a low volume afterward.

A way to alert residents of severe weather or tornado reports in the immediate area of Geneva, the siren is regularly tested at 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.

Weather permitting, Braniff Communications will be working from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Kaneville Road near Stonewood Glen Drive. The project requires crews to use a crane and bucket truck to lift equipment to the top of the pole.

Traffic on Kaneville Road east of Viking Drive might be limited to one lane during daytime hours Friday while crews work on repairs. Flaggers will be set up to direct traffic should temporary lane closures be needed.

Once repairs are complete, officials said the city may test the siren at a low volume, but it should only be heard from a "very short distance of the siren."
