Gregory G. “Greg” Cork, age 78, a resident of Plainfield, IL since 2000, formerly of Naperville, IL.

In 1972, Greg began a 30-year career with United States Gypsum Corporation (USG), working at various locations in the United States.

Gregory G. “Greg” Cork, age 78, a resident of Plainfield, IL since 2000, formerly of Naperville, IL, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born on April 23, 1948, in El Paso, TX.
Beloved husband of 55 years to Patricia A. “Pat” Cork (née Thompson), whom he married May 8, 1971, loving father of Daniel L. Cork of Alexandria, VA, Stephanie M. Cork of Lemont, IL, and Susan M. (Brian) McGarr of Mount Dora, FL, adored grandfather of Riley and Lily Goepp, both of Hartville, MO, devoted son of the late Glendon R. and Helen (née Maziasz) Cork, son-in-law of the late John D. and Eva F. Thompson, dear brother of Darrel (Lois) Cork and Roy (Cate) Cork, brother-in-law of Mike (Marlene) Thompson, Kevin (Kathleen) Thompson, JoEllen Magnuson, Colleen (Wally) Thompson-Cronin, Judi (Dennis) Brown and John (Alison) Thompson, Jr., fond cousin, uncle, great-uncle, great-great uncle and friend of many.
Greg met his wife, Pat, when they were students at Montana School of Mines (later Montana Tech and now Montana Technological University) in Butte, MT and graduated in 1971. Greg majored in Mining Engineering and while still a student, was employed with Anaconda Copper Mining Co. in Butte.
In 1972, Greg began a 30-year career with United States Gypsum Corporation (USG), working at various locations in Montana, Nevada, California, Michigan and at the company’s headquarters in Chicago, IL. During his time with USG, he held various managerial positions and at the time of his retirement served as Director of Geological Services for the company. In addition to plants in the United States, Greg also spent considerable time at locations in Canada and Mexico.
Following his retirement, he was a valued volunteer for the Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry where he worked in the food rescue area, using his personal pick-up truck for collecting food from various local retail locations. Greg battled multiple myeloma for almost 10 years, enduring many hours of chemo and various treatment techniques.
Greg was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville and enjoyed stamp collecting, listening to music and, most of all, spending time with family, neighbors and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held Monday, June 29, 2026, 9:30-10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville, IL 60563.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow Monday, 10:30 AM at the church with Fr. John Regan officiating.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Greg’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
