Halloween In Plainfield: Trick Or Treating Hours, Spooktacular Events
Village officials set recommended hours for trick or treating for Halloween, which falls on a Tuesday this year.
PLAINFIELD, IL — It's not long until children and teens will take to the candy trail in celebration of Halloween.
Halloween falls on a Tuesday this year, and the Village of Plainfield set its recommended trick-or-treating hours for 4-8 p.m. Oct. 31.
Locals will have another chance to celebrate the spooky holiday in Plainfield with the Plainfield Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Spooktacular.

The event will take to the streets of downtown Plainfield from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 28. Organizers said most businesses and vendors in the area will participate.
There's no charge to participate in Spooktacular's events. Check out what's planned:

- Free pumpkins at DNA Active Lifestyle Outfitter, while supplies last
- Photo booth and spooky carnival at the Plainfield library
- Haunted word game; pick up sheets at the library
- Vendor booths on the corner of Lockport and Des Plaines streets
- Haunted house and hair tinsel at Cally Larson Real Estate
- Photo opportunities and kids games at Re/Max Ultimate Professionals

With a few weeks until Halloween, police are helping residents gear up by sharing several safety guidelines.
- If you choose to hand out candy, please turn on your outside lights.
- If you do not wish to participate, please make sure your outside lights are turned off. The Village has also created a flyer (available online at www.plainfieldil.gov) that you can print and post in your window or door so that others know you are not participating.
- Make sure that trick-or-treaters have a clear field of vision and wear light colors or put reflective tape on their costumes.
- Be careful when crossing streets and check both directions for cars.
- Do not enter any homes.
- Check all treats in a well-lit area after returning home and only eat unopened candy that is in the original packaging.
- Respect others and their property.
