PLAINFIELD, IL — With Halloween just days away, many are putting the final touches on their costumes and buying the last bags of candy to celebrate this weekend. In Plainfield, that also means it's time for this year's Halloween Spooktacular.

The event, put on by the Plainfield Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce, is set to take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Plainfield Public Library, 15025 S. Illinois St. Spooktacular will feature family-friendly activities, games and events as well as trick-or-treating at participating businesses.

Ahead of the annual event, Plainfield police are forewarning drivers of "significant traffic delays in and around downtown Plainfield." Those who aren't attending Spooktacular are encouraged to avoid the area between 10:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

"The Village of Plainfield takes event safety seriously and event patrons will see a marked increase in police presence at this event. We urge all community members that plan to participate and attend to have age-appropriate discussions at home related to personal safety in large crowds."

Come Halloween, children will be able to trick-or-treat once more. This year, Plainfield's recommended trick-or-treating hours are set for 4-8 p.m. Monday.
