'Ham Everywhere,' Gasoline Spilled After Semi-Truck Crash On I-55 In Plainfield: Officials
The semi-crash resulted in more than 1,000 gallons of spilled gasoline and sent three people to the hospital, Plainfield officials said.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Multiple lanes were closed on I-55 in Plainfield Friday morning after a semi-truck carrying ham crashed early in the morning, spilling more than 1,000 gallons of fuel along with meat onto the highway, according to officials.
Plainfield Fire Protection district said a total of three patients were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash, which occurred around 4:15 a.m. on I-55 at Plainfield Road, involved multiple vehicles including a semi-trailer truck, Illinois State Police confirmed to Patch Friday. The truck tractor was found in the first northbound lane with the semi-trailer in the southbound lanes leaking fuel, according to police.

The semi-truck traveling northbound lost control, crossed the median, and hit another semi-truck heading south, Plainfield fire officials said. The southbound truck was hauling gasoline and received substantial damage to its trailer, causing over 1,000 gallons of gasoline to spill.
One truck involved was a refrigerated semi-truck carrying ham, according to NBC5's traffic reporter Kye Martin.

The southbound side of I-55 was still fully closed at Route 126 near Weber Road hours later, according to NBC5. Southbound traffic is being diverted off to Weber Road, police told Patch.
Plainfield fire officials said first responders isolated the initial gasoline spill, and a cleanup company arrived at the scene to complete the cleanup. The Will County Emergency Management Agency and the Environmental Protection Agency were notified.
