Help Hedd Mutt's Dog's That Need A Little More Care

Hedd Mutt Foundation a is registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization and we need your help! We have several special need dogs in our care.

Hedd Mutt Foundation’s mission is to provide sanctuary to abused, neglected and abandoned animals while searching for their forever homes. Sometimes rescue dogs cannot be adopted out quickly due to a variety of reasons such as medical, socialization or behavioral concerns. These types of cases comes additional financial costs that are not always planned. With the support of our dedicated sponsors, we're able to care for them.

Goose - 1 ½ year-old male Bulldog mix who was found by a local southwest suburb animal control. Goose was diagnosed with Blastomycosis, that onset rapidly resulting in decreased oxygen exchange and significant weight loss, due to a tremendous amount of the infection in his lungs. He was started on steroids to help with his breathing and he responded rapidly, thus resulting in him beginning to eat on his own. He was also given Itraconazole to fight the Blasto, which is a potentially deadly disease. Goose continues to improve, but his recovery will be lengthy, requiring ongoing medical test and supportive care. He will require a chemistry panel every 2-4 weeks to ensure that his organs are hanging in there, chest x-rays monthly, to ensure the inflammation continues to subside and a Blasto test will be repeated approximately every 3 months.
UPDATE AS OF 6/26/2017
Goose continues to respond well to his anti-fungal medications but slowly. His monthly x-rays show improvement each month, his Blasto results are not yet showing any marked improvement. When he was initially diagnosed his value was 14.6, his first repeat test after 3 months of treatment was 14.3. This is a strong indication that his treatment will be lengthy, most likely a year or more. Goose's care to date is $2450.00, these cost will continue for another 6-9 months of treatment. Goose will continue to stay in his foster home fill the time he is cleared by our wonderful team of vets.

Mack - approximately a 6 -year-old American Staffordshire Terrier Mix that was found as a stray and pretty banged up. All of his canines are fractured and at least 2 will need to be extracted. Mack has 3 growths which one is located on his eyelid that will need to be removed and evaluated. His ears will need a complete cleaning and further determination for treatment (infection vs. allergy), bacterial skin infection on his underside and a potential luxating patella on his left side.
UPDATED AS OF 6/26/2017
Mack went to get neutered on 6/20 and also had his boosters, ears completely cleaned, all growths removed including the one on his eyelid, and x-rays of his hips and knees taken. We learned that all 4 canines will have to be removed but as of this visit the 2 on his left side were extracted, it was decided not leave him under any longer and also for healing and comfort best not to remove all 4 at once. He will have to go back in about 1 month to have his other 2 removed. Luckily Mack has allergies and not an infection! His x-rays showed nothing of concern and the vet believes years of poor nutrition and limited exercise/movement have caused weakness in his hips and legs. Mack’s current medical cost are just a little over $800.00.

Loki - approximately 7 week old male American Staffordshire Bull Terrier Mix. He was dumped at our vet after his litter-mate died of Parvo and the owner didn't want the cost associated with the diagnosis. The Parvo virus is a disease of the stomach and small intestines, as this is where the virus does the most damage. The virus prefers to infect the small intestine, where it destroys cells, impairs absorption, and disrupts the gut barrier. Parvo in puppies also affects the bone marrow and lymphopoietic tissues, and in some cases can also affect the heart. Due to this Loki was on supportive care to combat the deadly disease and was held in isolation at our veterinary clinic for 6 days.

Thank you!
