Holiday Market Coming To The Farmhouse Plainfield

A business specializing in handcrafted items will launch a seasonal market on Dec. 2

PLAINFIELD, IL — It's not quite Halloween, but plans are already in the works for a holiday market in Plainfield. Earlier this month, the village board signed off on a request to bring a temporary outdoor market to a farmhouse at the corner of 127th Street and Naperville-Plainfield Road. The Farmhouse Vintage Holiday Market will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3.

The market will showcase more than 40 "local artisans and purveyors of upcycled, repurposed and handcrafted items, as well as items for sale by The Farmhouse," according to a village memo. Food trucks and food and beverage vendors will also be on site. The Farmhouse is also considering offering wine and beer provided by a licensed vendor.

The site is zoned commercial. In a memo to the village board, Director of Planning Jonathan Proulx said the property owner previously received site plan approval to turn the farmstead into a retail business selling reclaimed barnwood furniture and other handcrafted items. The site is in the process of being converted to retail, and Proulx said the market could help provide exposure for the business.

The site has 10 acres of parking in a grassy area, and The Farmhouse plans to have a parking attendant and someone to direct traffic as necessary, according to the memo. Guests will also enjoy the sights and sounds of the holidays with seasonal music and "highly decorated" buildings, patio and grounds.
