Yes, after a very hectic day at work, I decided that I was going to get the kids a special treat from Mc Donalds. It's fairly close to my home at the North end of Plainfield on Route 59, so it was a no brainer for me when I thought of giving them a little excitement at dinner time tonight.
Of course, the line is long. It always is. But I didn't care. I was going to make my kids night. They rarely EVER get McDonalds.
The line inches forward and I am allowed to placed my order and BAM! The total comes up as $8.88. For some reason I find this exciting and immediately think....I should play the lottery. Today is going to end on a high note. My mind continues to wander on some random thoughts and I admittedly am not paying attention to anyone in their car around me.
I inch for a while more and I finally got to the window and BAM! I got hit. Right there. In the drive thru at Mc Donalds. Of course, with no real witnesses.
I am absolutely stunned. All I know is that I was waiting in line to make my kids' day better and I get hit. I was hit by a random act of kindness. Someone paid my bill.
As I pull up to the second window, the employee hands me this bag full of food and he told me (with a HUGE grin on his face) to have a nice day. All I can remember is me looking at him while thinking to myself....."If I pull away are they going to call the police on me?"
I slowly proceeded and then did a stare down at every driver that I passed in the vicinity of McDonalds--I truly thought that I would be able to squeeze a smile out of the guilty party. But no, it just didn't happen. I just had a bunch of weirded out people looking at me wondering why I am staring at them. Whoever hit me with their act of kindness certainly did a great job keeping their presence anonymous.
So, here I am. Telling the whole world about what happened to me in a drive through because of your kind gesture, Mr. or Ms. Random Act of Kindness Giver. You made my day! Thank you! I promise to pay it forward.
