A new study looks at accident statistics, cost of car repairs and impaired-driving laws.

ILLINOIS — For most teenagers, getting your driver's license is a rite of passage — but can be a huge worry for parents. A new study from consumer finance site WalletHub took a look at the best states for teen drivers, comparing factors such as fatalities among young drivers, average costs of car repairs and the presence of impaired-driving laws. According to the rankings, Illinois came in close to the top.

The Land of Lincoln was ranked the fourth-best state for teen drivers, behind New York, Washington and Maryland. Illinois ranked sixth for safety, 23rd for economic environment and fifth for driving laws.

The worst-ranked state was Wyoming, which ranked last in safety and was also close to the bottom when it came to economic environment and driving laws.
