'Illinois Jobs Now!' to Fund Plainfield Projects
The village and Plainfield Township will receive a share of the funding.

Gov. Pat Quinn on Tuesday announced that Will County will get $3.7 million for local transportation projects as part of the "Illinois Jobs Now!" program.
The funding includes $162,130 for Plainfield, plus another $13,593 for Plainfield Township.

The funding, announced during a briefing at Plainfield East High School, is in addition to the $21.3 million in Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds Will County towns will receive this year.
“These investments will be used to improve roads in communities throughout Will County,” Quinn said in a press release issued Tuesday. “By investing in local transportation, we are creating jobs and improving quality of life for families throughout the area.”
The $3.7 million is the latest infusion of funding in a series of annual grants being awarded to local municipalities under the Illinois Jobs Now! program. The projects will be selected and managed locally, with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) providing oversight.
Plainfield Director of Public Works Allen Persons said the money has not yet been assigned to a specific project.
"While these funds are not specifically earmarked for a specific project, we will be able to expand our regular roadway asphalt resurfacing program next year," Persons said. "This additional funding will allow the village to resurface one additional mile of roadway."
Typically, the project covers five miles of roadway.
"This additional funding will provide a 20% boost to our program next year," Persons said.
