Illinois Soy Nut Butter E. Coli Outbreak: Second Brand Recalled
Dixie Diners' Club's Carb Not Beanit Butter has also been recalled.

GLENVIEW, IL. — After an E. coli outbreak that sickened a dozen people in five states — including an 8-year-old boy who had to receive blood transfusions and dialysis due to kidney failure — an Illinois company is recalling additional products.
The SoyNut Butter company in Glenview has widened a recall of its entire line of I.M. Healthy SoyNut Butter and granola varieties to include Dixie Diners' Club brand Carb Not Beanit Butter for potential E. coli contamination, the FDA said Friday.

"The recalled Dixie U.S.A. product was only available for purchase via mail order or online portals," the FDA said. The recall affects all "best by" dates, which can be seen on labels stamped in black on the back of the product.
While I.M. Healthy is based in Illinois, Dixie Diners' Club's Facebook page lists an address in Spring, Texas. The company claims its products are "all natural health food that tastes like junk food."

E. coli infection can cause diarrhea and bloody stools and potentially lead to more serious illness. "Although most healthy adults can recover completely within a week, some people can develop a form of kidney failure called Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS)," the FDA said. "HUS is most likely to occur in young children and the elderly. The condition can lead to serious kidney failure and even death."
A California couple last week filed a lawsuit against the Glenview-based I.M. Healthy company, claiming their 8-year-old son was hospitalized for 25 days due to HUS and will likely suffer lifelong health consequences.
