District 202's Thomas Jefferson Elementary School is hosting their annual musical this coming Friday (2-21) and Saturday (2-22) It is the 6th year in a row where the director Karen Blair and assistant director Lysa Heaton have come together to provide the children with what some people have described it as a ‘life changing opportunity’! “It’s not about the final performance necessarily”, Karen has been quoted as saying, “but more about the journey we all experience to get there.”
“Many of our children start off being extremely shy and nervous”, Lysa tells us, “and we are always blown away by what they are able to achieve in such a small amount of time!”
The directors and their team of wonderful parents and friends who help with everything from set painting to costume making to lighting started rehearsing back in November and have volunteered endless hours of their time to make this show happen for the children.

It’s such a wonderful experience that many 6th, 7th and 8th graders who starred in shows such as Annie, Oklahoma and Willy Wonka when they were students at Thomas Jefferson regularly come back to see if they can help.
“I feel so blessed to be able to provide them with such a positive theatrical experience from such an early age. It helps them in all manners of life including school. It really takes something for a child to stand up and perform in front of 500 people!” Karen tells us with a broad smile.
