Involuntary Manslaughter Charges Authorized For Aurora Man: Kendall Sheriff

Prior to the new charges, the 43-year-old was charged with domestic battery and violation of bail bond in December.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man is facing two charges of involuntary manslaughter after his girlfriend was found dead in December, according to the Kendall County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence off Route 30 in Aurora Dec. 7 when they found Erika Wackerlin, 43, dead at the scene. Officials said investigators made contact with her boyfriend, 40-year-old Gabriel Castro, and brought him into custody on unrelated warrants.

Officials "immediately" opened an investigation into the woman's death and charged Castro, of the 900 block of Lebanon Street in Aurora, with two counts of domestic battery and one count of violation of bail bond on Dec. 10.

The man remained in the Kendall County jail as the investigation continued, and on Feb. 8, he was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in Wackerlin's death, officials said.

Castro remains in custody in Kendall County. His bond is set for $100,000, with 10 percent to apply for bail.
