James R. “Fid” Fidler, age 86, a resident of Plainfield, IL.

Fid worked for many years as a salesperson with Rod Baker Ford in Plainfield. He was the former owner of Fidler's Tavern in Naperville.

James R. “Fid” Fidler, age 86, U.S. Army veteran, a resident of Plainfield, IL, formerly of Aurora and Naperville, IL, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. He was born on October 5, 1938, in Aurora.

Loving father of James R. (Edith Beaity) Fidler, Jr. of Markham, IL, devoted son of the late Clarence and Josephine (nee Michaels) Fidler, dear brother of the late Carole (the late Robert) Janoski, fond cousin, uncle and friend to many including his beloved Rod Baker Ford family.

Fid grew up in Naperville, where his father ran a tavern called the Orchard Inn. In his youth, Fid was a Boy Scout and enjoyed swimming at Centennial Beach in Naperville. After service in the U.S. Army National Guard and the U.S. Army, Fid owned and operated Fidler’s Tavern at 103 Jefferson Street in downtown Naperville in the late 1970’s and early to mid-1980’s and was known for having “the best burger in town”. Fid was later employed for many years as a salesperson with Rod Baker Ford in Plainfield.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, 4:00-7:00 PM at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 Joliet Rd. (Corner of Rt. 30 and Rt. 59), Plainfield.

A celebration of Fid’s life will be held Thursday, May 1, at 9:00 AM in the funeral home.

Family and friends will meet Thursday, 11:00 AM at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL 60421, (815) 423-9958 for committal rites and military honors.
