Just Ducky Opens in Downtown Plainfield

The boutique offers gifts in every price range, says owner Lori Donofrio.

The sign for the brand-new Just Ducky store in downtown Plainfield has yet to be installed, but owner Lori Donofrio wants shoppers to know: the gift shop is open for business.

“People don’t really know we’re open,” she said, noting that she expects the new sign to be erected sometime this week.

The gift shop joins a Burr Ridge location that is also owned by Donofrio.

“We just opened on Friday,” she said. The Plainfield store is located at 24103 W.  Lockport St. next to Andreasen Travel.

Donofrio and her family have operated Just Ducky stores for more than 25 years, starting with a Darien store that opened in 1986. She also ran locations in Bolingbrook and Naperville.

Now, Donofrio said she is looking to make a go of the business in her hometown.

“I live in Plainfield,” she said. “I feel that the town is really up and coming. We always wanted to [open] in a little downtown area.”

Donofrio said Just Ducky specializes in gifts of all kinds.

“If you need a $10 gift, you can find it, and if you need a $100 gift, you can find it,” she said.

Currently, the Plainfield store has four employees, but Donofrio said she may look to hire additional staff in the weeks to come.
