Katherine Thiel, 69, of Shorewood

Katherine was a long-time resident of Shorewood, Illinois, where she built a life rooted in love, family, and community.

Katherine A. Thiel (née Kroske), age 69, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Katherine was a long-time resident of Shorewood, Illinois, where she built a life rooted in love, family, and community.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Michael; her children, Angelica (Scott) May, Michael (Fay) Thiel, and Mackenzie Thiel. Katherine was a proud and loving grandmother to her cherished grandchildren, Andrew and Aiden, whose laughter and joy filled her heart.

Katherine is also survived by her sister, Donna Kuykendall (Jim). She was predeceased by her parents, Virginia and William Kroske, and her brothers, William and Glenn Kroske.

Known for her generosity, Katherine’s love for Christmas was felt by all who knew her. She found great joy in gift-giving and made the holidays a special time filled with warmth and family traditions. Her festive spirit and thoughtfulness will be remembered fondly by all who experienced her joyful celebrations.

Katherine also enjoyed her time working at Manheim, where she formed close friendships that she treasured deeply.

All are invited to celebrate Katherine’s life on Thursday, October 24, 4:00-8:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Rts. 59 & 30, Plainfield, IL. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 25, 10:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 600 Brookforest Ave, Shorewood.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), a cause close to Katherine’s heart.

Katherine’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
