Make Kendall Gun Ranges Safe News Release
There is a problem in Kendall County with outdoor target shooting. In one neighborhood a house was shot into through a window, and two rooms. Bullets have been felt, heard and seen whizzing by their homes by people out in their own yards. The noise and vibration of high powered repeating rifles makes outdoor and even some indoor family activities impossible. Would you host a child’s birthday party in your yard with sounds like a live outdoor gun battle going on next door?
Apparently, in this county there are virtually no limits on backyard shooting. Legally, bullets aren’t allowed to leave your lot, but there are no practical regulations to prevent it.
In researching this issue we discovered that Kendall County is about to relax the existing regulations on commercial for profit gun ranges to be built here. The new regulations, that delete existing protections, were written largely by a promoter of for profit gun ranges. This was done at the request of the Kendall County Planning Building and Zoning Committee. The proposal is set for Public Hearing August 27 at 7 PM at 111 West Fox St. Room 204, Yorkville.
