Library’s Summer Reading Program to Give Back to Local Charities
Friends of the Plainfield Library group will make a donation for every bingo card that is completed.

The Plainfield Public Library District is flipping the script this year on its Summer Reading Program.
During a traditional Summer Reading Program, participants receive prizes for reading, but with the library building being closed to the public due to COVID-19, the traditional summer reading model didn’t quite work. In lieu of a prize, a donation will be made to two local charities: Bags of Hope and Wags 2 Wishes animal shelter.
“With all that’s going on in the world right now, we felt our patrons would be willing to help support these wonderful local organizations,” said Plainfield Library Director Lisa Pappas.

The program’s theme is “Read. Explore. Give Back.”
After registering for the program through the library’s website or by calling 815.436.6639, participants are issued a bingo card according to their age group. Each bingo card square lists a fun, age-appropriate activity. Once five activities in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal pattern are completed, the bingo card is turned in and a new bingo card can be started over.

The Friends of the Plainfield Public Library group, who normally donates money to the library to help fund the Summer Reading Program, will instead make a donation for every bingo card that is completed. Participants of all ages are encouraged to complete multiple cards.
“This is a great opportunity for the Plainfield community to give back and have fun while doing it,” said Pappas. “Generosity is the prize!”
