Listeria monocytogenesis an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, the FDA said. Although healthy people may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The latest recall comes after multiple products sold in Illinois, including several brands of crackers, cereal and raw turkey, were pulled from stores for salmonella fears. Parasite infections in Illinois have also been linked to McDonald's salads and food served at a country club event in the suburbs.
