Lockport Street In Plainfield To Close For 4 Weeks
The closure is expected to take four weeks on the busy thoroughfare while crews install a new water main under the railroad tracks.

PLAINFIELD, IL — Lockport Street will close Sept. 11 to make way for the installation of a new water main, officials said.
The construction, part of the Old Town project, will take place under the railroad tracks and ComEd pole relocation work. It will require Lockport Street to be closed at Route 59 to all eastbound traffic.
The closure is expected to last about four weeks, according to Plainfield officials.

An eastbound and westbound detour will be implemented along with through-traffic restrictions in the work zone.
Adjacent residential traffic and emergency response vehicles will be allowed through the work area and flagged around construction operations. A full closure will be in place at the railroad tracks, officials said.

The new water main will be installed using a jack and bore method, so once the bore crew is within a certain distance from the railroad tracks, the work will advance into a continuous 24-hour operation, as required by Canadian National Railway, officials said.
The construction will involve the occasional use of backhoe, generator, wielding and contractor vehicles that will make "a moderate level of noise" during the day and night, officials said.
