Michael "Mike" Grant Law, of Plainfield, Illinois, formerly of Naperville, Illinois, and Highland, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, a week after celebrating his 74th birthday. Surrounded by the love of his family at Loyola University Medical Center, Mike bravely fought through a rare form of leukemia and complications following a stem cell transplant. Throughout his illness, he was supported by the unwavering love of his family, many friends and Loyola staff who cared deeply for him.

Mike lived a life filled with kindness, laughter, friendship, sports and a deep love for those closest to him. He was a devoted husband, father, poppa, and brother whose quick wit and one-liners could brighten any room. No gathering was complete without Mike's jokes, clever remarks, or a bit of trivia.

Mike is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 49 years, Debbie (née Manich); his daughter, Emily and son-in-law Gregory Jumbeck; their children, Sloane and Bronko; and his son, Grant and daughter-in-law Shaina Law, and their children, Demi and Brody. Mike also leaves behind his niece Julie (Dan) Schoening; nephew Sam Law (MeShawn); cousins Kim (Neil) Cordes and Tim (Charity) Lorenzen. Mike was not only a brother-in-law but also a dear friend to Steve (Pati) Manich, Sharon (Dave) Banas, and Sandra Manich. He was the fun uncle to Alex Manich, Blake (Sarah) Armstrong, Zachary Armstrong, and Anna (Austin) Heckethorn. and a treasured teammate, colleague, neighbor, and friend to many.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mary Kay Law; his older brother, Charles Law; in-laws Steve and Joan Manich, and his beloved Labradors, Dusty and Cocoa, with whom his family imagines he has now been joyfully reunited.

On the basketball court at Highland High School, Mike scored over 1,000 points for the Trojans, (before the 3-point line existed, as he would always remark). Mike continued his basketball career at Loyola University Chicago, before attending Purdue’s Krannert School of Business, earning his master’s degree. As a Certified Public Accountant and partner with Crowe LLP, Mike enjoyed thirty-four years specializing in auditing banks. He was very dedicated to his clients, what mattered most to MGL were the relationships he built with them and his colleagues. Many of them became friends and remained so long after his retirement.

His love of sports remained a constant throughout his life. He was a loyal fan of the Chicago White Sox, Purdue Boilermakers and Loyola Ramblers. Even into his 60s, Mike could still be found on the baseball diamond playing on a 62-and-over hardball team.

Mike treasured holidays, celebrations, and gatherings, often showing up in just the right Christmas sport coat or humorous accessory to get everyone laughing. In recent years, he loved spending winters with Debbie at their home in Estero, Florida, making memories with grandchildren and friends. Mike found joy in sharing stories over a perfectly made Manhattan, watching a ballgame or just listening to music. His endless jokes and ability to find humor in almost any situation brought smiles to everyone, and even strangers. The friendships Mike cultivated over the years were among his most cherished blessings. Mike will be remembered for far more than his ability to make people laugh. He was truly one of a kind, a loyal friend and a gentle soul. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, and all those fortunate enough to know him.

Mike will be celebrated on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Plainfield United Methodist Church, 15114 S. Illinois Street, Plainfield IL 60544, (815) 436-9651. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m., officiated by Reverend Richard "Dick" Wisdom.

Following the service, family and friends are invited to continue celebrating Mike with hors d'oeuvres, toasts, and the sharing of favorite memories beginning at 5:00 p.m. at White Eagle Golf Club, 3400 Club Drive, Naperville, IL 60564, (630) 983-0012.

In lieu of flowers, Mike would be honored to have memorial donations made to the Highland High School Boys Basketball Program.

Mike leaves behind a lifetime of unforgettable memories. Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing his legacy lives on in those he loved. As Mike would appreciate, "It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game"—and he played his with heart, humor, hard work and lots of love.
