Mother Plans Quarantine Daddy-Daughter Dance For Fourth Grader

Daddy's girl Zoey Mutnansky attends her first daddy-daughter dance in her living room after the District canceled it due to COVID-19.

PLAINFIELD, IL — When this fourth-grader at Grand Prairie Elementary School could not attend her first-ever daddy-daughter dance, her family organized one for her in their living room.

Zoey Mutnansky was disheartened when the District cancelled classes for the remainder of the school year — along with the dance — to prevent spreading of the coronavirus.

"This was the first year her elementary school was going to host this and she was very excited about it since she’s a daddy’s girl," said Zoey’s mother Kim. "She had already bought a dress and I got inspired by all the drive-by birthdays that I have been seeing. So I thought, 'let’s just do it' and have it in the house."

Along with the aid of her family, Kim organized a special quarantine daddy-daughter dance for Zoey and her husband Matt, decorating the house with balloons of colors on her dress. They also prepared themed-cookies and even bought her a corsage because “that’s what we would’ve done at the dance,” Kim said.

"Zoey was thrilled and she even did her own makeup. It was really cute!" she said.

The duo danced to songs such as "Time after Time" and "Cha-Cha Slide".

Kim said she hopes the school will reopen and Zoey can go back as a fifth grader, but for now, her advice to all the parents who are staying at home with their kids is that this pandemic should not stop them from doing something fun.

"Things are tough now but this dance showed her that not everything has to get cancelled. We could just do things a different way," she said. "Just be a little creative."
