Plainfield, IL — Artificial turf coming to Plainfield High Schools will have more than just one purpose.
The turf, being installed this year at Plainfield Central and South, and then next year at North and East, will be used for homecomings, graduations, gym classes, band practice and could even be rented out, District 202 Director of Community Relations Tom Hernandez told The Herald-News.

“It could be a revenue source and it creates a community opportunity that does not exist now and that’s how [other schools] have used their fields,” he told the paper.
Plainfield South Athletic Director Ken Bublitz said that wear and tear because of the weather will no longer be an issue.

“The turf field eventually will get worn down, but it will allow a number of different teams on the field, hopefully, without irreparable damage being done,” Bublitz said.
