National Beer Day: Drink Local At These Plainfield Area Breweries
Whether you prefer a lager, ale, stout or any other type of brew, here's a list of breweries in and around Plainfield to consider visiting.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Cheers! National Beer Day is Thursday, celebrating when President Franklin D. Roosevelt reversed prohibition in the United States in 1933.
Prohibition began in 1920, banning the sale, production, import, and transport of beverages with more than 0.5 percent alcohol.
The 1933 Cullen-Harrison act legalized wine and beer with a low alcohol content — 3.2 percent, historical records say.

"I think this would be a good time for a beer," Roosevelt said upon signing the act into law on March 21, 1933. It had been 13 years since it was legal to drink even low-alcohol beer in the U.S.
Now, National Beer Day is celebrated across the U.S. every April 7. Whether you prefer a lager, ale, stout or another type of brew, here's a list of Plainfield-area breweries to consider raising a toast at.
