National Night Out Events Will Kick Off August In Plainfield
The nationwide event "promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer."

PLAINFIELD, IL — National Night Out activities are returning to Plainfield to kick off August, police announced.
Locals will have the chance to interact with Plainfield Police Department staff from 5-8:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at Settler's Park, 24401 Lockport St. Sensory hour will take place from 4-5 p.m.
The nationwide event "promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer," according to the National Association of Town Watch, the organization that founded the annual early August event in 1984.

Since its inception, communities across the country have held National Night Out events on the first Tuesday of August. Block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other community events have been popular ways to celebrate the outreach-focused event.
In Plainfield, National Night Out will feature Touch-A-Truck, bounce houses, a dunk tank, live music, demonstrations and a business expo. Free food will include hot dogs, chips and refreshments.

National Night Out will be held in conjunction with Cruise Nights in downtown Plainfield.
