New Mexican Restaurant To Replace Shuttered Altiro In Downtown Plainfield

One Mexican restaurant left downtown Plainfield, but another is opening in its stead.

PLAINFIELD, IL — A new Mexican restaurant is opening in downtown Plainfield, replacing the recently shuttered Altiro Latin Fusion.

Chef Roberto Avila opened his fourth Altiro — at 15120 S. Des Plaines St. in Plainfield — in 2024. The restaurant closed in June but continues operating in Wheaton, Aurora and Geneva.

Rather than fully shutter the space, Altiro made a deal to sell some of its equipment to Los Razos, a carry-out restaurant in front of Menards, to help kick-start its new full-service operation.

"Altiro was struggling over there, unfortunately," Argoudelis said. "They were kind of just looking for a way to move on, so Los Razos has taken over and will open a formal sit-down version. ... It worked out for everybody."

The business at 15120 S. Des Plaines St. has seen significant turnover in recent years. The space housed Front Street Cantina for about two decades until it closed in early 2023. Glory Days Bar and Grill succeeded it, opening in 2023 but shuttering a few months later.

"Altiro has other successful restaurants; they just weren’t making money in Plainfield," Argoudelis said.

The mayor said Los Razos is expected to open soon.
