New Mom's Wedding Ring Lost at Plainfield Laundromat

A Plainfield mother was recovering from an emergency caesarean section when a well-meaning favor resulted in the loss of a precious belonging: her wedding ring.

Megan Gerovac said her sister and sister's mother-in-law were pitching in to help as she recovered by washing the family's clothing at Plainfield Soap Opera Laundromat, 15420 Route 59 in the Plainfield Plaza.

"I had just had an emergency c-section a few days before," Gerovac wrote on the Moms of Plainfield Facebook group. "My husband had put my ring in his jeans pocket as we were headed back to surgery and forgot about it."

On Monday, Feb. 13, "My sister was surprising us by cleaning our house and doing laundry (I know! She's amazing!) and she had no idea the ring was in the jeans pocket," Gerovac said. When Gerovac returned from the hospital later that day, she realized she never put her ring back on after surgery.

"It was then that we realized that my ring was missing," Gerovac said. She said she went to the laundromat in the hope of finding it but came up empty.

"I kept hoping it would turn up inside some of the other laundry or somewhere in my house ... but it hasn't. I am heartbroken," she said, adding that the ring once belonged to her mother-in-law and has sentimental value.

"I am hoping that maybe my ring got mixed up in with whoever did their wash after my sister in one of the two biggest machines in the first row ... closest to the wall," Gerovac wrote.

As of Tuesday morning, the ring was still missing, Gerovac said. She is asking anyone who might have found the ring to let her know via social media.

"My finger feels bare without it," she said.
