Obitaury: Robert M. “Bob” Arnold Jr.

He lived a life marked by service, innovation, and deep affection for his loved ones and community.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Robert M. Arnold Jr. “Bob”

Robert M. Arnold, Jr., passed away peacefully at the age of 81, on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Lightways Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 17, 1943, the son of the late Robert M. Sr. and Josephine (nee Bohn) Arnold. Bob attended Joliet Central High School and then served in the Navy, USS Independence, Norfolk, VA, before transferring to the Reserves.

Bob held local positions before opening his own first private ambulance company in Joliet. He also started and conducted the first paramedic training program in Joliet. For several years, Bob served as a safety officer for Citgo, Argonne National Labs, and then retired from Fermi Lab, Batavia, IL. During his retirement years, he was generous with his time and volunteered at the Rialto and helped transport veterans. He was an avid golfer who won many local tournaments and could often be found at Heritage Bluffs golf course. Bob’s love of the game extended to his knowledge and talent in making his own clubs. His hobby was woodworking, making furniture, and gifts for those he loved. He loved to bowl and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Nina Arnold; five children: Dr. Annette Arnold, D.N., Robert Anthony “Tony” (Jill) Arnold, Laureen (Bryan) Martin, Ed Arnold, Richard A. Arnold, Sr.; 12 grandchildren: Amanda (Matt) Lucenti, Noah Arnold, Laurette Parker, J. Curtis (Carol) Parker, Bryaene (Nathaniel) Kirby, Callista Martin, Tyler Arnold, Hailee Arnold, Nora Winterroth, Rose Arnold, Emma Arnold, and Richard A. Arnold, Jr.; and his three adored great-grandchildren: Brody Wosniak, Logan Lucenti, and Marty Kirby.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, George (Joanne) Arnold and John (Janet) Arnold.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care.

A Memorial Gathering for Robert M. Arnold, Jr. will be held on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Service at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors held under the auspices of the United States Navy and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. As it was his request, cremation rites have been accorded.
