Obituary: Barbara J. Seppi

Devoted and caring wife, mother, grandma, and friend will be deeply missed by all who know her.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Barbara J. Seppi

Barbara J. Seppi, age 85, passed away suddenly Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, just a few weeks shy of her 86th birthday. Barb was born in Joliet on November 25, 1938, the daughter of the late John and Vera McGowan. On June 11, 1960, she married Roger Seppi, and the two most recently celebrated 64 years of marriage together. Barb graduated from St. Francis Academy, and later completed a certificate in Travel & Tourism from the College of DuPage. After 22 years of dedicated service, she retired from Lewis University and ended her position as Chief Union Steward for clerical staff. She enjoyed her time there with faculty, staff, and most of all, the students.

She was a member of the Paulites Club at Queen of Apostles Church in Joliet. Barb was an avid reader and White Sox fan, loved flowers, enjoyed watching sports, was extremely proud of her Irish heritage, and cherished travel and outings with family and friends, especially trips to Disney World with her granddaughter. She also enjoyed many years of attending south side picnics with her family and friends.

Barb is survived by her loving husband, Roger Seppi; her daughters, Carolyn Seppi and Karen Krzywanos; her son, Robert (Nancy) Seppi; her granddaughter, Nicolette Krzywanos; brother, Jack (Pam) McGowan; brother-in-law, Larry (the late Arlette) Seppi; sister-in-law, Marjorie (the late Jack) Kiep; cousins Bill (Mary) Jenkins and Tommy (the late Barb) McGowan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Vera (nee Mikulich) McGowan; and son-in-law, Bill Krzywanos.

All friends and relatives are invited to celebrate Barb’s life on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, where there will be a Memorial Visitation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. At Barb’s request, cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated the following morning, Wednesday, November 13, 2024, where family will greet guests from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Apostles Catholic Church, 18 Woodlawn Ave., Joliet. Inurnment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Barb’s name can be made to Lurie Children's Hospital, St. Jude Children's Hospital in TN., or American Red Cross.
