Obituary: Betty Lee Plut

Compassionate and loving spirit, known to be an excellent cook, especially her delicious apple slices and pies, passes away at age 89.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Betty Lee Plut (Nee Fries)

Betty Lee Plut, age 89, formerly of Plainfield, IL, passed away with family by her side in Kissimmee, FL, on Wednesday, November 14, 2023. Betty was born and raised in Lemont, IL, the youngest of eight children born to Frederick and Elizabeth Fries. She graduated from Lemont High School where she was the Homecoming queen and Prom queen. She was a member of Grace Bible Church in Shorewood for many years, where she served in many capacities. Betty married John Plut on June 18, 1955; they made their home in Plainfield, IL, where they raised their family.

Betty will be especially remembered for her warm, compassionate and loving spirit. She enjoyed gardening, was an excellent cook, and was known for her delicious apple slices and pies, grown from her own fruit trees.

She derived her greatest joy from spending time with her family. Watching her grandchildren participate in their activities and sports was her true pleasure.

She will also be remembered for her unwavering faith and kind, charitable heart, especially toward Veterans and their families. She “Prayed without ceasing.”

Betty spent her last few years in the loving and compassionate care of her daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Mike Kleinschmidt, in Davenport, FL, for this we are eternally grateful. Even as she battled Alzheimer’s disease, she maintained her sweet character and witty personality.

She is survived by her loving children, John (Dottie) Plut, Kevin (Jill) Plut, Tamara (Michel) Kleinschmidt, Lori (David) Carlson; her grandchildren, Emily (Ben) Feicht, Clara (Chad) Kubinski, Andrea (Jonathan) Chepkevich, Nicholas (Rose Hutchison) Carlson; and great-grandchildren, Hunter, Colten and Tenneson Feicht, Liliana, Brody and Emma Kubinski; Sophie and Baby Chepkevich. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Patricia Plut, and many nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, John Plut; her parents, Frederick and Elizabeth Fries (nee Meyer); sisters, Marie Coley, Marge Kurbis; brothers Fred, John, Glen (in infancy), Bob, George, and Leonard; as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral Services for Betty Lee Plut will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, where a visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
