High school sweethearts, Carol and Orville found their way back to one another after Orville’s return from the military and from that moment on, they built a life side by side. Their love grew from youthful friendship into a lasting partnership filled with devotion, laughter, family, and countless shared memories. Their 56 years of marriage is a testament to the enduring power of love.

She was a selfless mother, a devoted and loving wife, a beloved auntie and a supportive friend whose kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her grandson was truly the apple of her eye, and the joy and pride he brought her was immeasurable. She was the glue that held her family together; annually offering her home and hospitality for birthdays and holiday celebrations.

In her younger years, her family spent time together going camping and boating. She took her family on Disney trips simply to see the joy it brought to them. She loved spending time at craft fairs and shopping in Amish country. She held closely the friendships she had with her sister and her girlfriends, and regularly treated her daughter in law to trips to the beauty shop and bohemian restaurants. She was an avid bird watcher and loved being a dog mom throughout the years.

She leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, strength and compassion. To her family and friends, she was not simply a part of their lives; she was at the heart of them, and her love will continue to hold them together for generations to come.

Carol is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Orville Bates; her son, Don (Kelly) Bates; grandson, Ryan Bates; and her sister, Karen Belcher. Carol was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

A Memorial Gathering for Carol Bates will be held Saturday, August, 29, 2026, from 1:00 p.m., until the time of Memorial Services at 3:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, IL 60431. Cremation rites have been accorded.
