Obituary: Darlene M. Bistry

She will always be remembered for being a loving and selfless person who was always generous with her time, talents, and energy.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Darlene M. Bistry

Darlene Marie Bistry, age 70, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at home, with her loving family by her side.

Born December 11, 1955, in Joliet, she was the daughter of Gordon and Shelby (Brooks) Peterson. Darlene was raised in Crest Hill, and was a graduate of Chaney-Monge Grade School and Lockport Township High School with the Class of 1974.

Darlene married the love of her life, Mark Bistry, and they celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary in July, 2025.

Described by her children as the best mom and grandma ever, Darlene was always there for them, and always made them her priority. She was actively involved with all of their activities including serving as a room mother and as a Girl Scout leader.

An avid gardener whose yard and garden were always beautiful, Darlene also loved to bake and was an excellent cook. She will always be remembered for being a loving and selfless person who was always generous with her time, talents, and energy.

Surviving are her husband, Mark; her two loving daughters, Melinda (Kurt White) Bistry and Megan (Mitch) Hulbert, both of Wisconsin; three adoring grandchildren, Rhett, Reese and Rue Hulbert; her dear sister, Denise (Gary) Clark of Joliet; brother-in-law, Roger (Debbie) Bistry; sister-in-law, Rebecca (Dave) Twaddle; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Deborah Cobden; and her husband’s parents, Robert J. and Helen (Grachan) Bistry.

Services for Darlene Bistry will be held private. Fred D. Dames Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
