Obituary: Edward J. Tokarczyk

Veteran, retired CTA Police Officer, and Sheriff with Cook County passes away at age 91.

Edward J. Tokarczyk

Edward J. Tokarczyk, passed away at Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet at the age of 91, on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on September 20, 1932, the son of the late Albert and Rose (nee Kaczmarczyk) Tokarczyk. Edward, the youngest of 6, grew up in Chicago in the “Back of the Yards Neighborhood.” He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Edward retired from the Chicago Transit Authority as a Police Officer after 27 years of dedicated service. He also worked as a Sheriff for the Cook County Sheriff’s Department for 10 years. He loved to collect stamps and coins and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.

Edward is survived by his sons, Tom, Joe (Blanca), and Larry; grandchildren, Tom Jr.(Kelly), Jason, Marshall, Josh, Joelle, Victoria, Laura, and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Kara, Haley, Greenlee, Kailee, and Kaiden; nieces and nephews, Diana, Jeffrey, Allen, Deborah, and Hayley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith in 1977; his sisters, Helen, Julie, and Ann; and his brothers Wally, Bruno, and Joseph.

Funeral Services for Edward Tokarczyk will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, IL. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the funeral home chapel from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lightways Hospice.
