Obituary: Gavin M. Jurgel

Gavin Michael Jurgel, age 51, of Morris, IL, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Northwestern University Medical Center following a courageous battle with numerous illnesses over the last several years.

Born December 24, 1973, in Charleston, IL, he was the son of Gary and Gail (nee Stockbar) Jurgel, and was a graduate of Morris High School with the Class of 1991. He later attended Joliet Junior College to further his education in the culinary industry.

Gavin lived his life dedicated to his family, music, and the Chicago White Sox. He loved the time he spent making memories with his niece and nephews, and he found great joy in listening to music.

Surviving are his parents, Gary and Gail Jurgel of Morris; his sister, Lisa (Joseph) Scardina of Naperville; nephews, Ben Clavey and Anthony (Juliana) Scardina; niece, Kate Scardina; great-nephew and niece, Rocco and Emma Scardina; an aunt, Linda Stockbar; and cousins, Timothy Mussario and Robyn Houston.

Visitation for Gavin will be held Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 at Deerpath Drive, Morris. A Committal Ceremony will be held Friday, March 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, Joliet.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Morris Hospital would be appreciated.
