Obituary: Georgiann Sokol

Her memory will continue to be a source of strength and inspiration to the many lives she touched.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Georgiann Sokol

Georgiann Sokol, age 83, of Crest Hill, IL, and formerly of Homer Glen, IL, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born July 15, 1941, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Marie Kereta. She graduated from Lindblom High School. Georgiann went on to attend Wilson Junior College, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Bill Sokol, during an English class. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from Chicago Teachers College, and taught for Homer Township School District 33C for over 25 years.

Georgiann loved to cook for her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her beautiful flowers and cherished her books. She treasured her trips to Marco Island, FL with Bill.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 58 years, William “Bill” Sokol; her loving children, Gregory L. (Christine) Sokol and Katherine M. (Marc) Pickard; adoring granddaughters, Elizabeth & Claire Sokol and Hannah & Amelia Pickard; and dear sister, Joyce Konieczny. Many nieces, nephews, and dear friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her mother and son, Christopher W. Sokol.

Memorial Visitation for Georgiann Sokol will be held Friday, May 23, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. As it was her request, cremations rites have been accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lightways Hospice or to the American Cancer Society.
