Obituary: Gerald F. “Butch" McMannis

He will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and sense of humor.

Gerald F. “Butch" McMannis

Age 78, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 19, 1946, in Marietta, Ohio, he was the son of the late Mary F. (Haines) and Charles McMannis.

A proud graduate of Morgan County High School, Butch later moved to Shorewood, where he dedicated over 50 years of service as a valued member of IBEW Local 176. Known for his passion for trap shooting, he was also deeply proud of his Irish heritage.

Butch will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and sense of humor. He brought joy to those around him.

Butch is survived by his children, Darla (Terry) Kemnetz, Charlie McMannis, Chris (Kathy) Eddleblute, and Robin Hardesty; four grandchildren, David (Mirah) Stinnette, William (Rachel) Stinnette, Mitchel Stinnette, and Nikki Kemnetz; four step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Judy Williams; many nieces, nephews, loving friends and family also survive.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 20 years, Barbara (Williams) McMannis (2021); his parents; his brothers, Billy, Gale, and Walter “Wimpy” McMannis; and sister, Irene Minzler.

A Memorial Visitation for Gerald F. McMannis will be held on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until services begin at 1:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. At his request, cremation rites were accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431.
