Obituary: Gordon 'Sam' A. Koch

Gordon A. Koch, known throughout his life as "Sam," passed away peacefully, surrounded by those he loved, on Friday, June 26, 2026.

Born February 9, 1948, to Gordon and Ardys Koch, he was raised in Ridgewood until 1965, when he moved to Plainfield to begin a new chapter with his one true love, Sally (Miller). Together they built a beautiful life, raised their family, and shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Sam leaves behind his three daughters, Sangell and her husband David, Samantha, and Sarah, along with the families they created, blessing him with ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Susan Niedick and Janet Buell, and his lifelong best friend, John Neef. He is now reunited with his parents, his brother Ralph, and his beloved wife, Sally.

A retired Local #174 carpenter, Sam was a skilled craftsman and perfectionist with the rare ability to build, create, and fix almost anything. A quiet man of few words, he possessed a strong spirit and a deep devotion to family. He was a reliable and steadfast presence, and whenever someone called for help, his answer was always the same: "On my way."

Above all, Sam was a devoted husband, a loving father, a doting Papa, and a loyal friend. His kindness, dependability, and unwavering love for his family will be remembered by all who knew him.
