Harley E. Cox

Age 77, of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Harley was born November 4, 1941, to the late Dilia I. (nee Hunt) and Homer A. Cox in Sterling, IL, and was raised in Manteno, IL. He attended Manteno High School, was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, and retired in 2004 from Unocal Chicago Carbon Company, as a C Operator, after 20 years of dedicated service. Harley enjoyed watching the stock market ticker tape and had a quirky sense of humor; always the jokester!

He had a lake house on Lake Carroll where he’d relax while fishing and boating – and the fishing was great! Harley loved spending time with his family and friends at the lake house. He was always available to lend a helping hand to everyone and will be truly missed.

Harley is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Carol A. (nee Erickson) Cox; five children, Charles (Sylvia) Cox, Joseph Cox, John (Kim) McGuire, Noreen (Jim) Nielsen and Christina McGuire; eight grandchildren, Amanda Cox, Dane Cox, Michala Cox, Mariah Cox, Ryan McGuire, Colin Nielsen, Haley Nielsen and Dylan Nielsen; one great granddaughter, Olivia Cox; and siblings, Richard (Ruby) Cox, Janice Town and Sherry Roberts. Several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, including his step father, Joseph Doty; and brothers-in-law, David Roberts and Walter Town.

Visitation for Harley E. Cox will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. until time of funeral services at 4:30 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Interment will be held privately by the family at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
