James A. Donnelly was born in the Bronx, New York to Daniel and Regina (Kellett) Donnelly.

James is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Maureen Donnelly (McCabe); children, James (Laurie) Donnelly and Colleen (Matt) Dial; grandchildren, Ryan (Michelle) Bromberek, Colin (Gianna) Bergeson, Sabrina (Drew) Glastetter, Art (April) Bergeson, Sydney Dial and Stephen Dial; great-grandchildren, Kinsley Glastetter, Bailey and Tyler Bergeson; sister, Rosemary Kinsella. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and his beloved dog, Daffney.

Preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Regina Donnelly.

Jim graduated from Joliet Catholic Academy in 1964 and married the love of his life in 1965. He started working at the young age of 18 at Ceco/Thomas Steel. Afterward, he worked for the New Lenox School District for 20 years.

Jim was an avid Cubs fan and loved spending the summers boating on the Illinois River with his family and friends. Spent many vacations at Kentucky Lake boating. Once Jim retired he loved spending the winters in Florida with his wife.

Jim loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved to lend a helping hand with building different things. Loved to supervise jobs to make sure they were being done correctly.

Visitation for James Donnelly will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. until prayers at 10:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 (at Deerpath Drive) Morris. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 E. Jackson St., Morris.

As it was Jim's wish, cremation rites will be accorded after Mass and his final earthly remains will be interred at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim’s name to Divine Hospice would be appreciated.
