Obituary: Julia M. Fukar

Loving Nana and generous volunteer passes away from a three-year battle with cancer at the age of 57.

Julia Fukar Obituary

Julia M. Fukar, age 57, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 27, 2023, with her loving family by her side, following a courageous three-year battle with cancer.

Born August 26, 1966, in Chicago, she was the daughter of Irene and Thomas Trakas. She grew up in Brookfield and was a graduate of Lyons Township High School with the Class of 1984. She worked as a registrar for Plainfield North High School for many years.

Julia was a woman of faith and her positive attitude was an example for many. She was generous with her time and energy, always giving and helping anyone she could. Julia was especially devoted to and active in volunteering for military and veterans’ causes. Above everything else, however, she loved being Nana to her precious grandchildren.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Michael Fukar; her loving son, Christopher (Shauna) Fukar; and her adoring grandchildren, Hayden, Sophia, Sadie, Cadence, Charlie, and a baby boy due in December. She is also survived by her parents, Irene and Thomas Trakas; three sisters and two brothers, Phyllis (Chuck) Davini, Tina Burkett, James Suero, Dana Trakas, and Thomas Trakas; a sister-in-law, Lynn Fukar; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Gathering for Julia will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 4:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Cremation rites have been accorded and interment will be private.
