Obituary: Lois Jean "Jeanne" Mance

She will be remembered for her ambition and kindness.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lois Jean “Jeanne” Mance (nee Maierhofer)

Age 89, at rest on Sunday, October 6, 2024 at the Inn at Willow Falls. Jeanne was born in Joliet on January 5, 1935 to the late Harold and Ida Mae (Dagon) Maierhofer. She graduated from St. Raymond Grade School and St. Francis Academy High School. Jeanne married Edward M. Mance on February 26, 1960 and they resided in Joliet, where she lived her whole life.

Jeanne was a member of St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church. She had many hobbies; her favorites were jazzercise and talking on the phone. She was formerly employed by Gerlach Barklow Co. of Joliet and retired from General Motors Acceptance Division. Jeanne also enjoyed volunteering at the Rialto Square Theatre.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward M. Mance (2011); her sisters, Phyllis Colvin and Mary E (James) Reed and her niece, Susan J. Colvin.

Lois is survived by her sister, Ann (late Bud) Vaksdal of Joliet; dear aunt of, Sherri Morgan, David Vaksdal, James Vaksdal, Kristine Hernandez, Bob (Beth) Colvin, Thomas (Angela) Kale, Janice Kale-Sussner, and David Kale. Numerous great nieces, nephews and four great-great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for Jeanne Mance will be Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, 706 N. Broadway St., Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow at St. Mary Nativity Cemetery. Visitation will take place at church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Memorials in her name to American Cancer Society, St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church, or the Rialto Square Theatre would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. Joliet, IL 60435.
