Mark “Hans” Schuck, passed away at the age of 69, on Monday, June 17, 2024, at St. Joseph Medical Center, with the love of his family by his side. Hans was born on September 27, 1954, the son of the late Herbert and Betty (nee Fenn) Schuck. A lifelong Joliet resident, Hans graduated from Joliet Central High School in 1972. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and his MBA from Lewis University. He retired in 2014 from International Harvester/Navistar after 35 plus dedicated years as a Mechanical Engineer of Reliability.

Hans found pleasure in spending time with his sons at the racetrack. He started his passion for racing in high school with mini stocks, and then went on to Midget cars, and sprint cars. His crown jewel of them all was fielding a USAC Silver Crown car that he ran with his sons, creating memories to last a lifetime. When Hans wasn’t working on race cars, he had a passion for bowling and fishing. Annual family trips were often spent on a lake in Canada, always having a competition to see who could catch the biggest Muskie and take home the infamous ‘Bobble Muskie’ trophy.

Hans’ generosity and unselfishness continued after his passing by saving and enhancing numerous lives through the gift of his organs and tissue with the Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen “Kathy” (nee Ksiazak) Schuck; his Frenchie, Rocky; and his two sons and best friends, Matt (Elizabeth nee Wojdyla) Schuck, and Aaron (Kaitlin nee Shulk) Schuck. He was the devoted “Pop Pop” to Josie and Grandpa to Stan. Hans is also survived by his brother, Matthew (Gail) Schuck; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded by his parents; and his in-laws, Joseph and Lorraine Ksiazak.

Visitation for Mark Stephen “Hans” Schuck will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of final prayers at 7:00 p.m. As it was his request, cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation.
