Michael T. Mores

Michael T. Mores, passed away at the age of 67, after a courageous six-year cancer battle, which he fought to the end, on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Lightways Hospice in Joliet. Mike was born in Joliet, IL on July 8, 1956, the son of the late Valerio and Sue (nee Toro) Mores. He was a 1974 graduate of Providence High School and dedicated 30 years to ComEd before retiring in 2015.

Mike grew up on the east side of Joliet, loving to spend his time outdoors and watching the Blackhawks. He met his wife Debbie during his father’s dentist appointment and after two years, they were married. After 15 years of living in Plainfield, they moved to New Lenox, where neighbors quickly became family. Mike was a beloved, integral part of his neighborhood block, always helping his neighbors with their trash cans, newspapers, and having a tool or gadget for anything that needed fixing. It was not uncommon for Mike’s daily walks with his adored miniature schnauzer Maggie to turn into an hour-long social hour, stopping to chit chat with friends along the way. Everywhere Mike went, he made friends and had stories to tell. Even in his last days, he quickly won over the hearts of the doctors, nurses, and staff who were caring for him.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Debbie (nee Johnson) Mores and his cherished dog Maggie Mae; siblings, Lucy (Joe) Pomykala, Larry (Sue) Mores, Tom (Denise) Mores, Marie (Al) Moretti; brother-in-law, Darrel (Kathy) Johnson; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his dear friend, Gail Knutson. He is preceded by his parents; one brother, Ken Mores; and his wife’s parents, Billie and Marlyis Johnson.

Memorial donations in his name to GIST Cancer Research or Lightways Hospice would be appreciated.

In following with his wishes, funeral services will be held privately by the family and cremation rites have been accorded.

There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are by the support of family, friends, and neighbors. And a heartfelt thank you to the 5-2 nurses and the interventional radiology team at Silver Cross Hospital for their compassionate care.
