Obituary: Richard T. Hastert

United States Army veteran will be remembered by many for his enjoyment of the simple pleasures of life passes at age 81.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Richard T. Hastert

Richard T. Hastert, age 81 of Joliet, passed on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Rush-Copley Medical Center. He was born in Aurora, IL, on December 30, 1942, the son of the late William and Gladys (nee Spring). Richard served in the United States Army. He retired from Sherwin-Williams after 40 years as a sales representative.

Richard found joy in collecting music boxes, enjoyed the time he spent fishing, and admired street rods. In recent years, Richard had a newfound love for sweets; store-brand chocolate chip cookies and mini Baby Ruth candy bars were his favorite.

Richard is survived by his son, William Hastert; and his sisters, Mary Wilzer, and Margaret (James) Richter. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lynne (nee Hoffman) Hastert, and brothers William Hastert, Jr. and Dennis Hastert, Sr.

Visitation for Richard T. Hastert will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home at 3200 Black Rd.(at Essington Rd.), in Joliet, IL, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 5:00 p.m. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Morning Star Mission in Joliet, IL.
